about THE CLIENT
The Great West Run is Devon’s largest running event and one of the South West’s longest-established mass participation races, welcoming thousands of runners and spectators to Exeter each year. Since first launching in 1985, the event has grown into far more than a race, bringing together the Half Marathon, 10K, Community Mile, charities, volunteers and local organisations to celebrate health, achievement and community. Combining closed-road racing with an inclusive event village, entertainment and charity partnerships, the Great West Run has become one of the region’s flagship annual sporting events. Today, it continues to attract runners of all abilities while creating a welcoming experience for participants, supporters and volunteers alike.
MY contribution
Joining the official event photography team at short notice, I took responsibility for one of the event’s photography briefs, documenting the Event Village, prize giving, volunteers, sponsors and the wider atmosphere surrounding race day. Working from a detailed production brief, my role was to create photography for marketing, social media, press and future event promotion, ensuring key commercial partners, community initiatives and memorable participant experiences were consistently represented. Delivering within a coordinated multi-photographer team required adapting quickly, balancing a structured shot list with changing priorities throughout the day while producing authentic imagery that reflected the scale, energy and community spirit of the event.
